Chevy Stops Production of the Chevy Volt

December 23rd, 2018|

When Chevrolet announced that it was ceasing production of the Volt, consumers were shocked. This news came as a surprise announcement to many, since the Volt is the best-selling electric vehicle in the United States. And it's one of the most popular electric vehicles in general. By the end of 2018, sales of the Chevy Volt reached 148,556. This is more than its closest competitors (Tesla's Model S and the Nissan LEAF), which sold 138,000 and 126,747 vehicles, respectively. So why did Chevrolet call it quits? The reason, it cites, is a shift in consumer trends. In recent years, consumers have been moving away from buying sedans and gravitating towards SUVs. This trend is expected to continue, and many automakers are phasing out their sedans in response. Chevrolet is following suit, and the last of its Volt vehicles will be produced in March, 2019. Some of its manufacturing plants have already closed in preparation for phasing out the beloved vehicle. The Chevy Volt's Early Beginnings The world got its first glimpse of the Volt in 2007 when the car was unveiled at the North [...]

Why the Chevrolet Volt Became Famous

December 15th, 2018|

What exactly made the Chevrolet Volt a famous car from General Motors? You have a couple of reasons that this car became famous, but to put it bluntly, General Motors brought this car to the market at a time when everyone wanted a way out from under the expensive gas prices. Back in 2010 when gas prices were on the rise daily, people wanted alternatives, and they found the alternative in the Volt. What Made This Car Different? One of the reasons that electric vehicles and hybrids didn't take off at the time was because of how electric vehicles had a horrible short range on top of the excessive cost. Meanwhile, hybrids didn't give you enough electric power to make them worth the trouble. When the Chevy Volt came in, it changed everything because it created a vehicle where people could save money on the cost of gasoline. Volt had a performance that left the Prius in its dust, and the only close competitor that the Volt had was Tesla. The Volt could be considered one of the most electric cars out of all [...]

Throwback Thursday: the 2016 Chevy Volt

December 13th, 2018|

Auto manufacturers are discontinuing many passenger cars, with the Volt being included. Looking back to 2016, Chevrolet produced one of the Volts best model years. It was completely redesigned and available in two different trim packages. The LT was the base model and was very well equipped for a standard package. You could also have upgraded to the Premier, which was available in two different trims. More Refined The Chevy Volt was more refined in 2016. The batteries became more powerful while switching the single large motor for two smaller ones. The engine was switched from a four cylinder displacing 1.4 liters with an iron block to a lighter 1.5 liter engine that used an aluminum block. It worked together with the electric motors and drove the differential with a chain instead of driven previously using gears. The engine alone puts out 101 HP with the electric motors increasing their power from 17.1 to 18.4 kW. Economical The Volt was able to travel further on battery power alone. It went up from 38 miles on a charge to over 50. Once the batteries were [...]

Chevrolet Equinox: Is it the Best?

December 12th, 2018|

Is a Chevrolet Equinox your best bet for an SUV? It's tough for consumers to analyze the entire class of SUV's to see which vehicle provides the most reliability, comfort, and style. You can research a plethora of websites and still not have enough insight to make an informed decision. That's because there are many choices with different variables to consider. Each dealer will cast a great light on their own new vehicles. How do you know for sure that a Chevrolet Equinox is the vehicle that will ultimately meet your individual needs? Let's go into some of the details that help separate the Equinox from other similar vehicles. Style A Chevrolet always looks incredible. Chevy is known for style and vehicles generally retain value for longer periods of time. That's because they are built to last long term. The 2018 Equinox is smaller and lighter than previous versions. What does this mean for you as a consumer? Lighter vehicles typically use less fuel on the road and highway. It's no longer a larger sized SUV. This means you'll be able to fit into [...]
