The two men, Gene Cordes and William “Bill” Howard were both Chevrolet enthusiasts and decided to open a dealership in Simi Valley. Both of their hometowns were short on Chevrolet dealerships at the time, so they hoped to fill that void. After running the Chevy shop for several years, they eventually sold it to another owner, who converted it into a GMC shop. The two men stayed gone for a while, however. A few years after selling the shop, they reopened it as Cordes Chevrolet in 1948, and the rest is history. Simi Valley was home to five Chevy dealerships in just a few short decades.
