The Tahoe and the Suburban—both of which are full-size SUVs—are two of the most well-known and historically popular models in Chevrolet’s vehicle lineup. They have both been available on the mainstream auto market for decades—they are two of the longest-running models in Chevrolet’s vehicle lineup—and have both been long-time best-sellers in the full-size SUV segment. However, in recent years, both the Tahoe and the Suburban have declined in popularity. Updates for the 2022 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban both got updates for 2022.

These two full-size SUV models—both of which were once frontrunners in the SUV segment as a whole—faded slightly from popularity during the 2010s. Over the past several years, SUVs have grown exponentially in popularity and more major automakers have begun designing and releasing their own popular SUV models—many of which are more modern than the Tahoe and the Suburban.

Despite slight declines in the sales of both of these models, neither the Tahoe nor the Suburban was ever ready to give up. For the 2021 model year, both the Chevrolet Tahoe and the Chevrolet Suburban underwent complete redesigns that marked the beginning of the 5th generation for the Tahoe and the 12th generation for the Suburban.

These redesigns for the 2021 model year made the Tahoe and the Suburban more powerful, more capable, more stylish, and certainly more modern—many infotainment tech and advanced safety and driver-assistance features were added to these full-size SUVs for the 2021 model year.

Because both the Tahoe and the Suburban were completely redesigned for the 2021 model year, these full-size SUVs did not receive any major changes for the 2022 model year. However, the 2022 Tahoe and the 2022 Suburban do feature multiple key updates that set them apart from their 2021 predecessors.

Keep reading to learn more about what’s new for the Chevrolet Tahoe and the Chevrolet Suburban for the 2022 model year and discover some of the most important features you might have missed from the 2021 update that have helped these two full-size SUVs retain their spots as best-sellers on the mainstream auto market.

Both the 2022 Tahoe and the 2022 Suburban are available with three different engine options—namely a 5.3-L V8 engine, a 6.2-L V8 engine, and a diesel 3.0-L six-cylinder engine—all of which pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The towing capacities for both the Tahoe and the Suburban are between 7,500 and 8,000 pounds for the 2022 model year.

New Features for 2022

For the 2022 model year, the 6.2-L V8 engine option—which was previously available only for the top-tier trim level of the Tahoe and the Suburban—becomes available for the top four trim levels of these full-size SUVs with the addition of an add-on package.

The base trim level for both the 2022 Tahoe and the 2022 Suburban is the LS model. With the exception of this base trim level, every trim level for both the Tahoe and the Suburban receive a new 12.0-inch digital gauge display for the 2022 model year. Those who are fans of analog displays, however, don’t have anything to worry about because this 12.0-inch digital display fits into the center console of the Tahoe and the Suburban alongside an analog speedometer and tachometer.

All trim levels of the Tahoe and the Suburban aside from the LS also receive a new advanced navigation system as a standard feature. This navigation system is built into the 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment display of the 2022 Tahoe and the 2022 Suburban.

New safety and driver-assistance features are built into the 2022 Tahoe and the 2022 Suburban as well. For the 2022 model year, lane-keeping assist and parking sensors come standard for both of these full-size SUVs, and reverse automatic braking is newly available.
